The Marrakai Area

A successfully balanced industry and conservation habitat

Travelling time to the Marrakai area will significantly improve soon, with the $64 million duplication of the Stuart and Arnhem Highways, expected to commence late 2026. This will create dual lanes in each direction of the Arnhem Highway for 12 kilometres from the Stuart Highway entrance. The Sanctuary is set amongst the Adelaide River Floodplains, which protect the area from ever being built out. Managed by NT Parks & Wildlife, conservation is balanced with public access and tourism, preserving the wetlands biodiversity and its multiple wildlife breeding habitats.
