Fishing Map

Main species caught in waterways of the greater Marrakai region include Barramundi, Saratoga, Tarpon, Snapper and Threadfin Salmon. Goat Island is approx 20km along the river from Adelaide River boat ramp. There is good fishing around this area through the dry on neap tides when the water is fairly clear. Did you know?
Some barramundi have been recorded at over 45kg in weight and 150cm long.

There have been barramundi recorded at over 35 years of age, though a maximum age of 20 years is more common.
Did you know?
Most barramundi are born as males but at about eight years of age they turn into females. They can grow to 100cm long by this time. Any barramundi that is over 95cm long is probably a female.
General sizes for barramundi:
One year old -
30cm to 40cm long
Two years old -
50cm to 60cm long
Three years old -
60cm to 80cm long.
Every year (since 2015) the NT Government releases tagged barramundi in Arnhem Land waterways as part of the annual Million Dollar Fish competition.
